Environmental Monitoring

Geomatics Group spearheaded the use of aerial remote sensing for monitoring environmental change and flood events in the UK in the early 1990s. Today, more than ever, these issues are at the forefront of government policy and having quality geographic information is absolutely vital when making key decisions and setting policy.

With a wide range of survey tools to choose from, including LIDAR, hyperspectral imaging and bathymetry, Geomatics Group are able to deliver integrated datasets that provide a truly comprehensive view of the environment. These data can provide a unique insight into the impact of climate change and its effects on the human population and are crucial to making informed, quality decisions.

Applications include:

  • Visualising coastal change
  • Erosion\Accretion mapping
  • Land cover classification
  • Flood event monitoring
  • Biomass surveys
  • Habitat surveys
  • Thermal mapping
  • Forest management

Geomatics Group’s experience in this field is second to none and we continue to work closely with the Environment Agency providing LIDAR data for flood risk assessment and planning, as well as monitoring coastal change and surveys to assess algal cover. Other clients include Natural England, MOD, SEPA and a number of local authorities in England and Wales.

We have been working with Natural England for over ten years and have recently produced a joint report on the operational uses of remote sensing for Environmental Monitoring. Follow this link to view the report.
