Geomatics Group also owns and operates a vehicle-based laser scanner, the LYNX Mobile Mapper™ from Optech.

With an increased demand for even more detailed surveys, Geomatics Group have invested in the very latest technology designed to capture the highest resolutions and provide even greater levels of accuracy. The data is suitable for a wide range of applications such as surface water flood modelling, urban mapping for planning and asset management.

Combining new LIDAR technology with survey grade positioning and motion sensors, LYNX captures high-resolution point data from a moving platform. LYNX can operate from 4x4 off-road vehicles, survey boats and cars, dependent on application.

The system allows the collection of thousands of heighted co-ordinates per square metre, within view of the sensor, giving an extremely detailed view of the environment.

• Two LIDAR instruments, each with a 360° field of view, positioned on top of the vehicle to minimise shadowing from other road vehicles.
• Capable of recording up to 200,000 measurements per second.
• Accuracy of +/-5cm and a spatial resolution of up to 1cm at 80km per hour.
• Maximum range of 100m.
• Rapid survey time, delivering a highly cost effective solution.
• Colour photography or surface reflectance values are recorded synchronously and can be merged with the point cloud to aid interpretation of the data.
